Introduction
My name is Justin Fishman and I am in the Media, Self, and Society Scholars program and I am in the Robert H. Smith School of Business as an undecided major. I am taking this media scholars course to learn more about how the media has affected my life and how it influences members of society to think a certain way. In the last year or so the media has been ever so important for society to get their news as Covid-19, the presidential election and so many other events have arisen in our nation. A big part of the media whether people realize it or not is bias and fake news and it has been very interesting to learn about the extent to which it has changed the way I have looked at things my entire life. Ever since 7th grade I've been an avid consumer of social media sites as I have constantly been surrounded by technology and users of social media. During high schoolI learned a lot more about social media, our society, and what goes on behind the scenes through being a staff writer and page editor for the Wootton Common Sense Newspaper. This is where my interest about the way the media affects our society really started and why I was super appreciative for the opportunity to be a part of this particular program. Media scholars has taught me a lot about how the media portrays their own version of the real world and has made me more aware of the bias in the media that I watch everyday. I am excited to use my deeper understanding of how media influences our society to help educate others about the media and why it operates the way it does.
